The
Albania-EU Energy Efficiency Centre (EEC) began as an action under the
SYNERGY Programme in April 1993 and was officially established in November
1995 with the full support of European Commission and Albanian Government.
By establishing EEC, the Albanian Government has fulfilled part of its
commitment under "The Protocol of the Energy Charter Treaty for Energy
Efficiency and the Environmental Aspects concerned with it", which Albania
signed in 1995.
EEC
is collaborating with other countries to promote and improve the energy
efficiency of the Albanian economy and to protect the environment. EEC
provides the technical and other expertise to make this possible. It
also promotes the use of renewable energy sources, which besides having a
lower environmental impact, reduce the rate of depletion of conventional
fuels.
EEC
is the only specialised institution in Albania that works in the above
mentioned fields, and now it has become a self-financed organisation
through providing services in the field of the rational use of energy,
renewable energies, and its involvement in various programs and activities
with the support of the Albanian Government and European Commission.
