"Feasibility Study for Heat and Power - Albania"

Project financed in the framework of UNOPS Programme.

 

The objective of this Project is to enable the Albanian National Agency of Energy (NAE) to take decisions regarding potential pilot projects within DH & CHP and to develop a feasibility study for a potential pilot project in Tirana - Albania. The second objective is capacity building that means enabling NAE to independently undertake similar projects in the future. This Project, implemented in close collaboration with Dansk Energi Management A/S of Denmark, and focused on two sites in Tirana, University Hospital Centre "Mother Teresa" and Student City, consists of:

·   Energy Survey and Audit on Energy and Water Consumption for both Sites;

·   Pre-feasibility Study for both Sites;

·   Selection of the most feasible Site;

·   Review of Possible Financing Sources for the implementation of the Project;

·   Feasibility Study for the selected Site;

·   Tariff Study for Electricity and Heat;

·   Contracting & Implementing Issues.

"Population Awareness Campaign about Payment of Electricity Bills, Efficient Use of Energy and Use of Alternative Energy Sources in Albania"

Project co-financed by US Embassy in Tirana.

 

Main specific features of this Campaign are:

·   Selection and training of 10-12 Journalists from the Written and Electronic Media that should become familiar with energy related problems;

·   Organization of two Round Tables with these Journalists;

·   Publication, in different Newspapers, of a series of 4-5 Articles about the energy-related problems;

·   Realization and broadcasting of 3-4 Reports on TV about the energy-related problems;

·   Realization and broadcasting of 2 TV spots, the first for the damages caused to the Power Sector from Misuse of Electricity, and the second for the Promotion of Efficient Use of Energy as well as Promotion of the Alternative Energy Sources Utilization;

·   Realization and distribution of a set of Simple and Comprehensive Posters.

"Photovoltaic Use for Water Supply to Rural Areas in Albania"

Project co-financed by UNDP/SGP and OSCE Offices in Tirana.

 

Through the proposed project, EEC aims the achievement of a multiple result:

·   Implement in Albania the First Photovoltaic Systems, which will have a great importance for the dissemination of this environmental friendly technology;

·   Influence the Improvement of Energy Crisis in Albania by giving a new alternative (solar energy) to traditional energy sources;

·   Present a Concrete Example for Solving in a Sustainable Way the severe problem of Electricity and Water Supply to Rural Areas in Albania, which seriously hinders their economic development;

·   Promote the Agricultural Business in Albania this being strongly connected with poverty alleviation in rural areas;

·   Conduct a Public Awareness Campaign and Training Program in order to promote the project to other rural communes in Albania.

The Project addresses the problems in the supply of electricity that has arisen recently following the shift to market economy of Eastern European Countries. The project is focused on:

·   How Urban, Low-income Communities have been affected by Recent Changes since the introduction of Market Economy Policies;
